Freelancer's Union meets the needs and concerns of America's growing independent workforce through public advocacy, information, portable benefits, and other services. Freelancers Union provides low-cost insurance products, and helps connect members to each other to find jobs, trade advice, and sign up for advocacy opportunities.
Freelancers Union increased operating revenue by 70 percent from FY2006 to FY 2007, and grew total memberships to more than 60,000. In New York City, Freelancers Union helped pass a bill that reduced the Unincorporated Business Tax for freelancers making $75,000 or less, and will continue to advocate for full exemption for all independent workers. In 2008, the organization will conduct outreach campaigns in five cities nationwide.
