Jumpstart's mission is to work toward the day every child in America enters school prepared to succeed. By fostering one-on-one relationships between children and adults that focus on building literacy, in combination with social and emotional readiness, Jumpstart prepares children to enter school ready to learn, while also inspiring adults to teach and families and communities to get involved.
- Jumpstart continued its rapid growth in 2005, increasing revenue by 20% and lives touched by 33% as it decreased the cost per child served.
- By the end of the 2005-06 school year, 2,500 college student Corps members from 60 campuses will have served nearly 10,000 preschool children at 200 Head Start and other early learning centers across the country.
- Jumpstart children typically start the school year behind their peers on 2/3 of "school readiness" measures, while completing the year on par with or ahead of their peers on 2/3 of the measures.
- Jumpstart has increased the overall number of adults serving low-income preschoolers by 5% nationwide, with an even more dramatic increase of 70% in Boston and San Francisco neighborhoods.

In August 2006, Jumpstart seeks to engage the country in the largest-ever shared reading experience, with its Read for the Record Campaign; The Today Show's Matt Lauer and Mrs. Laura Bush are honorary chairpersons for the campaign. Jumpstart is piloting new ways to reach more children. Through various partnerships and with the expansion of its School Readiness for All Initiative, which provides Jumpstart for every child in need in an entire community. In addition, Jumpstart's dedicated policy team is actively working to shape federal public policy to improve early childhood education for all children.
