Paul Carttar, Executive Partner
Paul Carttar is an Executive Partner at New Profit Inc. and is an independent consultant specializing in strategic planning for nonprofit organizations and private foundations. He previously served as Executive Vice Chancellor of External Affairs at the University of Kansas and was Chief Operating Officer for the Kauffman Foundation, one of the nation’s largest philanthropies. In 1999, Paul co-founded the Bridgespan Group, a nonprofit consulting firm affiliated with Bain & Company.
Paul began his career as an analyst for the U.S. Senate Budget Committee and, later, research assistant to Arthur F. Burns, former chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. In 1981, he was selected by Burns, then U.S. ambassador to West Germany, to serve as his Special Assistant in Bonn. After receiving his M.B.A. from Stanford University, Paul spent seven years in the San Francisco office of Bain & Company. He subsequently ran marketing and operations for two venture-funded companies in the healthcare industry.
Paul graduated with highest distinction from the University of Kansas in 1976 with a B.A. in Economics and English.
